Now Enjoy Awesome Weekends at Urban Haat, Navi Mumbai

Those who are unfamiliar with legendary artists, who have accomplished a great deal in the field of performing arts, can seize an excellent opportunity to know a great deal about them.

Urban Haat, primarily a shopping destination, has organised movie screenings every Saturday and drama recitals every Sunday, starting April 26. Documentaries on noted music composers, singers instrumentalists, danseuses and poets will be screened.

KSV Nair, Manager of Urban Haat, said, “We have got a total of 37 DVD’s from the Film Division of India. From April 26 to May 18, we will screen documentaries on Pandit Jasraj, Bhimsen Joshi, Manna Day among others. We Plan to screen more documentaries after the initial slot is completed. Plays on various themes will also be staged by members of Yavnika Theatre.”

As a prelude to Rabindra Jayanti, Shantiniketan Ashramik Association will organise a dance and music performance. “Our associations consist of members, who are alumni of Shantiniketan, living in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. We will have a few recitals of songs of Tagore and have dance performances on the same.” R Mukhopadhyay, a member of the association and a resident of Kharghar.

Many othe artistes, whose documentaries will be screened, are singer and actor, K.L. Saigal, calssical music exponents Tejpal Singh and Surinder Singh also called ‘Singh Bandhu’ music composer Salil Chowdhury, known for his compositions in languages including Bengali, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam; Bharatnatiyam and Krishnamurthy and Mallika exponents, Mungara Yamini Krishnamurthy and Mallika Sarabhai, Carnatic vocalist Dr. Balamuralikrishna, among others.

Documentaries will also be based on well-known dance forms like Kathakali and Mohiniattam. “The screenings and recitals will begin at 7am and go on till 9pm,” added Nair.
